Diego Collarana, PhD
Dr. Diego Collarana is a Senior Research Engineer and Co-Director of the ICI institute. He has more than 15 years of experience conceptualizing and developing enterprise information systems using state-of-the-art technologies, i.e., Knowledge Graphs and Deep Learning. Additionally, he serves as component manager and team leader “Knowledge Graphs” at Fraunhofer IAIS. He received a master’s diploma (double degree Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Technische Universität Kaiserslautern) in Software Engineering. He obtained a Ph.D. (Magna Cum Laude) at the University of Bonn on Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Collarana’s experience allows him to solve complex problems in enterprises, including knowledge representation and integration, linked data, and conversational assistants. He is the founder of several open-source projects, including MINTE, a semantic integration technique that allows companies to go from heterogeneous data to actionable knowledge.
Alex Villazón, PhD
Dr. Alex Villazón is a full-time professor at the Private University of Bolivia and Co-Director of the ICI institute. He got the prestigious Simon I Patino scholarship and obtained his Ph.D. from the Université de Genève, Switzerland. He also serves as researcher and director of the Research Center for New Information Technologies (CINTI) and President of the Ethics and Transparency Committee (CET) of the UPB. At ICI, he supports us with his vast knowledge of implementing clusters and highly distributed systems (Grid, Cloud Computing, BigData) and IoT (Internet of Things), looking for innovative ways to apply Knowledge Graphs and Conversational A.I. in these scenarios.
Martin Arispe, CSD
Ing. Martin Arispe is our Senior Project Manager and Software Engineer. Martín got his degree in Software Engineering from the Catholic University of Bolivia. He has more than seven years of experience in developing software. He was a visiting researcher at Fraunhofer IAIS in 2018. His research areas include User Experience for Conversational Assistants, Natural Language Processing for Spanish, Knowledge Graph Construction, and Virtual Environments. He is an active member of Google Developer Group.
Carla Florida is completing her studies in Systems Engineering. She is active in local and international Machine Learning and Data Science communities. Carla leads the community “Pyladies Cochabamba,” and she was awarded the prestigious Grace Hopper Celebration scholarship. She is as well a Cisco Networking Academy instructor. Her general areas of interest are Machine Learning and Deep Learning. Carla supports our group as an Associated Research Engineer developing state-of-the-art deep learning models for Conversational AI.
Juan Diego Guzmán
Juan Diego Guzmán is completing his studies in Business Engineering. His general area of interest is building innovation ecosystems and enterprises around artificial intelligence and computer science. Juan supports our group as a Junior Business Developer and Artificial Intelligence Engineer developing state-of-the-art deep learning models and looking at potential markets for these solutions in the Latinoamerican region.
Ana Paola Montero
Ana Paola Montero has graduated in Computer Science from Universidad Privada Boliviana. She is a Natural Language Processing (NLP) enthusiast and researches its application to support mental health wellness, which is her thesis topic. She also works as a consultant at “Nice InContact” company supporting NLP projects. Her research interests include Sentiment Analysis and Quality Assurance (QA) of a software product. She did two internships related to QA at “AssureSoft” company.
Jens Bürger, PhD (Former Director)
